This 4-day, 3-night tour takes you to many fabulous places in a short time. The tour starts in Fes. First, we visit Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and the Cedar Forest. We stop in Midelt for lunch, then drive along the amazing Ziz River. We reach the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, where you can ride camels and spend the night in a desert camp, enjoying the magical sunset and sunrise.
Take a 4×4 journey exploring the Sahara Desert. You will also visit the traditional market in Rissani and the fossil town of Erfoud. Then, explore the Todra Gorges, Dades Gorges, and the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Finally, cross the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass. The tour ends in Marrakech.
1st Day: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Sahara
The four-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour begins with an early pickup from the airport or your accommodation in Fes. We drive south through Imouzzer to visit Ifrane, famous for its low temperatures, snow, and alpine-style houses, earning it the nickname “Switzerland of Morocco.” We then continue to the Cedar Forest, where the Barbary macaques live, and you can feed them while wandering through the forest.
Later, we head to Midelt for lunch before proceeding to the Sahara Desert. Our route takes us through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the Ziz River. In the afternoon, we reach the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, where you’ll switch to camels to cross the sandy dunes. We’ll stop to enjoy the magical sunset atop a high dune before continuing to the luxury desert camp. Here, you can enjoy Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under a vast, starlit sky. Dinner and overnight in the camp.
2nd Day: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove
Waking up early to contemplate the beautiful sunrise in the desert is essential. After breakfast, return to Merzouga on camels, where your driver awaits. We dedicate the day to exploring the Merzouga region, which boasts incredible sites such as sand dunes, a wild lake, mines, fossil areas, and fabulous oases, perfect for outdoor activities.
Our journey begins in Merzouga, driving off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine. Next, we visit the nomads in their handmade woven tents and learn about their lifestyle while drinking Berber tea. Our next stop is Khamlia village, where you’ll enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances by locals from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After free time for lunch at a restaurant, we stroll through a palm grove and drive a few kilometers to see the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as Flamingo Lake. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.
3rd Day: Merzouga Sahara – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
After breakfast, we leave the desert to visit Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a major trading center in the region, with a lively souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the Rissani Souk, we continue to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop.
We drive through Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to reach the Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a grand canyon through the mountains, creating high, red cliff-sided walls. These gorges are ideal for rock climbers. Feel free to wander and appreciate the stunning landscape. After lunch at a restaurant, we continue to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at the “monkey fingers” rock formation and a viewpoint atop a mountain overlooking the Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.
4th Day: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
On the final day of your four-day desert tour from Fes, we head to Kalaat M’Gouna to visit the Rose Valley, where a Rose Festival is held annually in May. Locals offer various rose products, from perfumes and rose water to oils and cosmetics. We then drive through the palm groves of Skoura and reach Ouarzazate, also known as the “gateway to the desert,” where we’ll visit the film studios where famous movies were shot.
We proceed to the renowned Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site featured in movies like Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as TV series such as Game of Thrones. Our journey continues to Marrakech, crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass and the stunning High Atlas Mountains, with stops for lunch and photos at scenic spots. Finally, we reach Marrakech, where we’ll drop you off at the airport or your accommodation. End of the tour.
