Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Telouat – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate – Rose Valley – Boumalne Dades
Your 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes begins with an early pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. From there, you’ll travel through the stunning High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, with stops along the way to capture the panoramic views of the breathtaking landscapes.
You’ll then visit the renowned Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This site has been featured in many films such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as TV series like Game of Thrones. Next, we head to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gate of the Desert,” where you’ll tour the Atlas Studio, famous for its movie productions, and visit Taourirt Kasbah. Afterward, we proceed to the Rose Valley, known for its annual Rose Festival in May, where locals sell a variety of rose-based products. The day concludes in Boumalne Dades, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel or Riad.
Day 2: Boumalne Dades – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara – Overnight in a Luxury Camp
After breakfast, admire the stunning landscapes of the Dades Gorges before continuing to Todra Gorges. Here, the Todra River has carved a spectacular canyon with towering red cliffs. You’ll have free time to explore the gorges and enjoy lunch.
In the afternoon, we reach the Merzouga Sahara Desert. You’ll switch to camels for a journey across the sandy dunes, stopping to witness the magical sunset atop a high dune. The evening is spent in a luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy Berber drum music and dance around a campfire under a starlit sky. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 3: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove
Rise early to experience a beautiful sunrise in the heart of the desert, followed by breakfast. You’ll then return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. Today is dedicated to exploring the diverse region of Merzouga, with its sand dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossil areas, and oases, perfect for outdoor activities.
Your journey begins with a visit to an ancient eyeliner mine, followed by a stop to meet local nomads in their handmade woven tents and enjoy Berber tea while learning about their way of life. Next, you’ll visit Khamlia village to enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances by locals from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After lunch, take a stroll through a palm grove and visit Merzouga’s wild lake, also known as Flamingo Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 4: Merzouga Dunes – Erfoud – Midelt – Cedars Forest – Ifrane – Fes
On the final day of your tour, wake up early to savor another beautiful desert sunrise. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver will be ready. Depart the desert to explore Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet, known for its bustling souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the souk, proceed to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop.
The journey continues along the Ziz River, with a stop for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. Enjoy lunch in Midelt, then visit the cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques, where you can interact with them. Afterward, explore Ifrane, noted for its cool climate, snow, and alpine-style architecture, earning it the nickname “Switzerland of Morocco.” The tour concludes with a drop-off at the airport or your accommodation in Fes.
