private 6-day tour from Marrakech to Fes, passing through the captivating Moroccan Sahara Desert. Over the course of 6 days and 5 nights, you’ll explore numerous incredible sites, including the majestic High Atlas Mountains and the scenic Tizi-N-Tichka Pass. Visit the iconic Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah and the city of Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Desert.” You’ll also see the historic Amridil Kasbah, the scenic Dades Valley, and the dramatic Todra Gorges.
The journey continues to the Merzouga Sahara Desert, where you can ride camels, witness breathtaking sunsets and sunrises, and spend the night in a desert camp. Explore the vast Merzouga Sahara in a 4×4 vehicle. In addition, you’ll visit the traditional market in Rissani and Erfoud, known for its rich fossil history.
As the tour progresses, you’ll discover the “Switzerland of Morocco,” Ifrane, and wander through the Cedars Forest, home to the native Barbary macaques. Finally, explore Fes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, filled with historical and cultural treasures. The 6-day tour concludes in Fes.
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Telouat Kasbah – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate
Your 6-day Morocco desert tour kicks off with an early pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. You’ll then travel through the captivating High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass. There will be several stops for you to take in the panoramic views of the stunning landscapes. The first major stop will be at the historic Telouat Kasbah.
Following this, you’ll visit the renowned Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortified village has been featured in numerous films such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as the TV series Game of Thrones. The day concludes with a journey to Ouarzazate, often referred to as “The Gateway to the Desert,” where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura (Kasbah Amridil) – Rose Valley – Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara
After breakfast, explore Ouarzazate, starting with a visit to the Atlas Studios, known for filming many famous movies, and the Taourirt Kasbah. The tour then heads southeast to the Amridil Kasbah in Skoura, surrounded by beautiful palm groves. Next, you’ll visit the Rose Valley, famous for its annual Rose Festival in May, where locals sell rose products, including perfumes, rose water, and oils.
The journey continues through the Dades Valley, with a stop to admire the breathtaking landscapes of the Dades Gorges. From there, you will proceed to the Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a spectacular canyon through the mountains, forming high red cliffs. You’ll have free time for lunch and a chance to explore the gorges’ stunning beauty.
In the afternoon, the tour reaches the Merzouga Sahara Desert. Here, you’ll switch to camels to traverse the sandy desert, stopping to witness the magical sunset atop a high dune. The day ends at a luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under a vast, starry sky. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 3: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove
Start your day early to catch the mesmerizing sunrise in the desert, followed by breakfast. You’ll then return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. The day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region, which boasts incredible sites like sand dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossil areas, and beautiful oases—perfect for outdoor adventures.
Begin your exploration with an off-road drive to visit an ancient eyeliner mine. Then, visit the nomads in their handmade woven tents to learn about their lifestyle while enjoying Berber tea. Your next stop is Khamlia village, where you’ll experience Gnaoua music and dance performances by residents originating from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After lunch, take a stroll through a palm grove and visit the wild Merzouga Lake, also known as Flamingos Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 4: Merzouga Dunes – Erfoud – Midelt – Cedars Forest – Ifrane – Fes
After breakfast, depart the desert to visit Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet, which remains a vibrant trading center with a lively souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Following a visit to the Rissani souk, head to Erfoud to see a workshop of fossilized marble.
The tour then continues along the Ziz River, with a stop to enjoy a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. You’ll have free time for lunch in Midelt before visiting the Cedars Forest, home to the native Barbary macaques, where you can feed and interact with them. Afterward, explore Ifrane, known for its cool climate, snow, and alpine-style houses, earning it the nickname “Switzerland of Morocco.” Finally, you’ll be dropped off at your accommodation in Fes.
Day 5: Guided Tour of Fes
After breakfast, embark on a guided tour of Fes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities and its cultural and religious center. The tour starts with a visit to the Royal Palace gate, followed by a tour of the well-preserved medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enter the Medina through the Blue Gate, or Bab Boujloud, with a local guide to visit sites like the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine Fountain, the Tanneries, and the Quaraouin Mosque and University—the world’s oldest university. After exploring the Medina, visit the Jewish quarter, “The Mellah,” and drive to an ancient fortress for panoramic views of the Medina and the city of Fes. The day concludes with a return to your riad.
Day 6: Transfer to the Airport
After breakfast, enjoy a short tour of Fes before being transferred to the airport for your departure, marking the end of your Morocco desert tour from Marrakech.
