Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Telouat Kasbah – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate
Your 5-day Morocco desert tour begins with an early pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. You’ll journey through the stunning High Atlas Mountains and cross the scenic Tizi-N-Tichka pass, making stops along the way to take in the breathtaking panoramic views.
Next, visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and fortified village that has appeared in numerous films such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as the TV series Game of Thrones. The day continues with a trip to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gateway to the Desert.” Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Agdz – Draa Valley – Nkob – Merzouga Desert – Camel Trekking – Overnight in a Luxury Camp
After breakfast, explore the city of Ouarzazate, beginning with a visit to the Atlas Studios, where many famous movies were filmed, and the historic Taourirt Kasbah, an ancient fortified mud castle. Then, travel to Agdz and join the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river. You’ll drive along the valley, stopping to admire the panoramic views of palm groves, spectacular Kasbahs, and Berber villages, with free time for lunch in Nkob or Alnif.
In the afternoon, continue to the Merzouga Sahara Desert through Rissani. Upon reaching the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, you’ll switch to camels to cross the desert. Pause atop a large dune to watch the magical sunset before heading to a luxury camp, where you’ll enjoy a combination of traditional nomad tents and modern comforts. Enjoy Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under a starry sky. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp.
Day 3: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove
Wake up early to witness the beautiful sunrise in the desert, followed by breakfast. Return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. Spend the day exploring the Merzouga region, known for its stunning sand dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossil sites, and oases—ideal for outdoor activities.
Start with a drive off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, then visit local nomads in their handmade woven tents and enjoy Berber tea while learning about their lifestyle. Next, head to Khamlia village to experience Gnaoua music and dance performances by residents originally from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After lunch, take a stroll through a palm grove and drive a few kilometers to see the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as Flamingos Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 4: Merzouga Sahara – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
After breakfast, leave the desert to visit Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet, which remains a major trading center with a bustling souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the Rissani souk, continue to Erfoud to visit a workshop of fossilized marble.
The journey proceeds through the Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to reach the Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a magnificent canyon through the mountains with towering red cliffs—an ideal spot for rock climbers. Take time to wander through the gorges and appreciate the landscape’s beauty, followed by lunch in a restaurant. The tour continues to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, with must-see stops at the “monkey fingers” rock formations and a vantage point overlooking the valley. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 5: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – Amridil Kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
