5 Days from Fes to Marrakech Morocco Tour Itinerary. In these 5 days and 4 nights, you will visit many fabulous places in a short time. The tour begins in Fes. Firstly, we will visit the Switzerland of Morocco, Ifrane, and the cedar forest. We will stop in Midelt for lunch, then drive along the amazing Ziz River. After that, we reach the Sahara Desert in Merzouga, where you can ride camels and spend the night in a luxury camp in the middle of the desert. You can also enjoy magical sunsets and sunrises in the Sahara. Furthermore, you will visit the traditional market in Rissani and Erfoud, the fossil town. Then, visit the Todra Gorges, Dades Gorges, and the various Kasbahs, including Ait Benhaddou and Amridil. Finally, cross the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka pass. The tour ends in Marrakech.
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Sahara
Begin your 5-day desert tour with a convenient pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Fes. Head south through Imouzzer to visit Ifrane, known for its low temperatures, snow, and alpine-style houses—hence its nickname, the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Continue to the Cedar Forest, home to the Barbary macaques, where you can feed these monkeys while exploring the forest.
Travel on to Midelt for lunch before journeying through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the scenic Ziz River. By afternoon, you’ll arrive in the Merzouga Sahara Desert. Experience a camel ride across the sand dunes, pausing to watch the magical sunset from a high dune. Arrive at a luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under a starlit sky. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp.
Day 2: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove
Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise in the desert. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver awaits. Spend the day exploring the Merzouga region, known for its sand dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossil areas, and stunning oases—ideal for outdoor activities.
Begin your adventure by visiting an ancient eyeliner mine, then meet the nomads in their handmade woven tents and learn about their lifestyle over a cup of Berber tea. Head to Khamlia village to enjoy traditional Gnaoua music and dance performances. The village is inhabited by people from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After lunch, take a stroll through the palm grove, then visit the wild Lake Merzouga, also known as Flamingo Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 3: Merzouga Sahara – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
After breakfast, depart the desert to explore Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a major trading center with a bustling souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
After exploring the Rissani Souk, head to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop. Drive through the Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to reach the spectacular Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a dramatic canyon through the mountains. These towering red cliffs are a paradise for rock climbers. Enjoy free time to explore the gorges and appreciate the stunning landscape. After lunch, continue to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping to see the unique “monkey fingers” rock formations and a viewpoint overlooking the valley. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, travel to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Rose Valley, famous for its annual Rose Festival in May, where locals sell rose-based products such as perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics. Enjoy lunch at your leisure.
Proceed through the palm groves of Skoura and visit the Kasbah of Amridil. Finally, reach Ouarzazate, where you can explore the film studios where famous movies were filmed, and visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 5: Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Telouet – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
On the last day, visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featured in numerous films and TV shows, including Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Continue your journey to Marrakech by crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch and photo opportunities along the way. Conclude your tour with a drop-off at the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech, marking the end of your 5-day Fes to Marrakech desert adventure.
