This 3-day, 2-night Morocco Sahara desert tour takes you to many remarkable places in a short time. We begin by departing from Fes, a city rich in culture, and head to Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and cool climate. Our journey continues to the Cedar Forest of the Middle Atlas Mountains.

We stop for lunch in Midelt before driving along the stunning Ziz Valley, famous for its lush palm groves. Our destination is the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, where you can ride camels and spend the night in a desert camp, enjoying magical sunsets and sunrises over the dunes.

Explore the vast Sahara Desert in a 4×4 vehicle to uncover the hidden wonders of Merzouga. You will also visit the traditional market in Rissani and the fossil-rich town of Erfoud. Finally, we return to Fes, marking the end of the desert tour.

ITINERARY : 3 DAYS SAHARA DESERT TOUR FROM FES

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Sahara

The three-day Sahara Desert tour begins with an early pickup from the airport or your accommodation in Fes. We drive south through Imouzzer to visit Ifrane, renowned for its cool climate, snow, and alpine-style houses, earning it the nickname “Switzerland of Morocco.” Our journey continues to the Cedar Forest, home to the Barbary macaques, where you can feed these playful creatures while exploring the forest.

Later, we travel to Midelt for lunch before heading to the Sahara Desert. Our route takes us through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the Ziz River. By afternoon, we arrive at the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, where you’ll switch to camels and traverse the sandy dunes. We’ll pause to enjoy the magical sunset atop a high dune before continuing to the luxury desert camp. Here, you can revel in the rhythm of Berber drum music and dance around the campfire beneath a vast, starlit sky. Dinner and overnight accommodations are provided at the camp.

Day 2: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove

Waking up early is essential to witness the breathtaking sunrise in the heart of the desert. After free time for breakfast, you’ll return on camels to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. We dedicate this day to exploring the remarkable Merzouga region, which boasts incredible sites like sand dunes, a wild lake, mines, fossil areas, and stunning oases—perfect for outdoor activities.

We start our exploration by driving off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine. Next, we’ll visit the nomads in their handmade woven tents, where you can learn about their lifestyle while sipping Berber tea. Our next stop is the village of Khamlia, where you’ll enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances by locals whose ancestors hail from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. After free time for lunch in a restaurant, we’ll take a stroll through a grove of palm trees and drive a few kilometers to see Merzouga’s wild lake, also known as Flamingo Lake. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at a hotel.

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Ifrane – Fes

Rise early to witness the beautiful sunrise once more. After breakfast, you’ll return to Merzouga on camels to meet your driver. We then depart the desert to visit the town of Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a major trading center in the region, with a bustling souk that comes alive on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the Rissani souk, we continue to Erfoud to visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble.

Our journey takes us along the Ziz River, where we’ll stop for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. We then drive through the Cedar Forest and Ifrane to return to Fes. Finally, we’ll drop you off at the airport or your accommodation, marking the end of the tour.
